Architect Practioner

This blog post is in response to the readings on John Habraken and the video on him as well. I found a few particular quotes interesting one was "Prior to Palladian arcitecture, no architecture had been named after a single practioner." When I saw this I was thinking he's on to something here. In these past few weeks of applying for jobs at various firms, I have found many of the firms are named after the head architect for the firm. Today you hear of famous names of architects such as Bjarke Ingles, Daniel Libeskind, and Jeanne Gang. Architecture is created by architects and architects are human. Humans tend to be prideful which lends people to name their firms after themselves. Is it wrong to make a name for yourself and your work?

As architects we need to be wary not to only design for our own needs and aesthetics we want but also design for the clients, users, and the public. Habraken in the reading mentions that Palladio designed with two main constraints: classical order and vernacular craft and materials. As architects, I believe we should design not for ourselves but instead with an innovative mindset with the local materials and be willing to collaborate with local builders to not steal the identity of the city by creating something that truly does not belong.

In the reading he mentioned Venice, here is some image of me in Venice.
