Architecture for WHOM?

Yesterday I was apart of the team that helped lead a debate on architecture for whom. We had really interesting responses  to our questions. Our method included using a miro board where everyone moved their face over their response to our question. Naturally, this invited doodling on each others photos and all around fun as we entertained different points of view and spoke about each topic. Luckily, this theme of questions of "Architecture for whom?" was a great starting point to get deep into questions and scenarios that led into interesting and thought provoking commentary on the topics. Some of my favorites are below.

This last question really got to the studio! Everyone had a lot of opinions and there were many changes happening after the second question was posed. This question was basically laid out that you were designing for a client where the taste of the architecture was not necessarily yours but it was still a profitable project. The other option was a more neutral design but with terrible wall coverings. The switch happened in the studio when the question above was asked. If you owned the second project, would you stick with it? Or would you abandon the second project and go for the higher paying first gaudy project. Overall, I thought we had really interesting conversations and I am looking forward to the next debate.

  1. I really enjoyed the debate, Henry! Your team did a great job and caused me to really think about my answers, that changed with the discussion often.
