"What they really need is an expensively tiled street"
Rebel Architecture is such an interesting concept. It’s not
even just a concept, it’s a reality. I can’t help but admire their bravery and persistence
to continue building the spaces they need, despite the government's lack of support.
What really struck me was at the end of the video, when they interviewed the government
official and he went on about how a lack of money was the root cause of why
they are struggling so hard. But then, they turn around and spend $380k on a
fancy paved street. Are they really so blind to what is happening on the ground
that they didn’t realize that money couldn’t have been so helpful elsewhere?!
And no one suggested otherwise? Or they just didn’t care and had their own
agenda? Santiago has been doing everything he can with whatever he can and most
importantly, it’s for the people, by the people. I’m excited to see what the reclaimed
cement factory will look like when it’s done.
