Infra-ordinary
Is there a category between significant and insignificant?
Why do daily newspapers report on everything except the daily things? To give a more modern example: why is reality TV everything except reality? When it comes to architecture, Perec suggests that we should be questioning materials, tools, the logic of functionality, and the use of time. I think there is inspiration to be discovered in the ordinary which we as designers should use to our advantage. For somethings to be significant, there must be something else acting as the background. So, perhaps we should view the choice of the wall, floor, or ceiling material as the most complimentary background to make the experience of the room/building be special. Isn't the experience more important than the space itself?
