Reverse Precedent

Moriyama House, Tokyo

Studio Project

At first glance, its layout hardly resembles that of a typical house. The owner Moriyami wanted to rent out part of his house to have income and have company since his mother, his last family member, died. The mini houses created a social, yet private environment. Kat and I are designing for teenagers with down syndrome. We had similar thought when creating our plans of having a social, yet private environment. Finding this precedent makes me want to play with our program sharing element between these small buildings more just as the Moriyami house does. Our next step is to design the lobbies as a network of connecting points, then infill the spaces between the buildings around these connecting lobby paths.
