Merely Artists...

 Submission for 1/22

Architecture is a cross-disciplinary field and we should continue to treat it as such. Once we disregard function, we’re merely large scale, sculptural artists. Granted, form over function may work for certain building types, museums, theaters etc., but if the occupants are required to stay for extended periods of time, it is our responsibility to consider how they move and their wellness within this space. If this is not the case, the life span of the building will depend on it being an “architectural marvel” only. It’s wasteful. And I would argue that eventually, it would fall to despair. The people always have the last say.

  1. This is such a true statement. We can not treat architecture as art, but architecture itself is an art form. It has to be functional art. It cannot just be sculpture that does not relate to the human, as the building in your image is doing a terrible job of.
