Micro to Macro

This blog post is dedicated to a an article I read briefly that then led down an interesting rabbit hole of thought. The article talked about how scientists have found what they believe to be evidence that there is the existence of a micro-multidimensional ‘space’ within our brain’s neural network.
Now, what the h*ll does this mean?

Let’s look at it through an architectural lens, as we do with everything else. The smallest measurable network of connections of information may be correlated with the largest observable connection of space. In the literal and metaphorical sense, we (the architect) exist to design to live in the space in-between. Trippy. But I wonder if there has been an architect to explore this humbling nature of humanity. We have been trained to be able to dissect buildings and overcome problems through extreme critical thinking processes. So, what is stopping us from applying this critical thinking skill to the greater factors of physical nature or the human mind. After all, trying to have a better understanding of our place in the universe can help us design a better place for us in the universe.

  1. This is an interesting thought. I think that in the near future, we will find architects and researchers that will be studying and exploring this topic. Currently we are on the brink, and one example are the studies shown for the affects of Biophilic design to our psych. You should also search Neri Oxman, an architect/researcher at the MIT Media Lab, where she combines design and biology in unorthodox ways.
