Everyday life in everyday urbanism
What is everyday urbanism? It actually includes urban area, suburban area. Every day, we live in our city, what we see and feel is everyday urbanism. In fact, the process of urbanization in the world are the same. In our urban design, we need to focus on all aspects, including living environment, landscape and urban greening and the connection between cities and suburbs. If we want to change the city, we need to understand the life of the city’s people. Because all the design should serve people first.
The experience of everyday life is very important to everyone. So how the environment can serve life is the most important thing for people. Like everyone on urban transportation, everyday work, the environment they lived in, the surrounding areas, including the community environment and so on. Urban functions in addition to providing life demand, but also need security, including the combined functions of commercial, leisure, more important is to ensure the safety of the people.
In America, there are some yard sales. Actually, each family has some products decoration which is not being used. These products can sale in your courtyard. the United States have a backyard sales culture. Each person through their backyard can come in, to choose their home want second-hand, is a good way for both sides. In this case, the courtyard is not a private place, and become a public place, can welcome more people to come over.
So in my opinion, when we do the design, we should let people connect the family life and block life better.
I agree that people is the main key for city, people come to the city for a living and stay in the city for a better life.
ReplyDeleteI think it's interesting that you brought up the garage/yard sale concept into everyday urbanism. It is definitely something that has changed and adapted over time to become an event that connects people in an unintentional fashion.
