Learn from Tent City Urbanism

When I was in Charleston doing the internship, I had the opportunity to have some research about homeless housing problem. There were about one hundred people living in a tent city under the bridge forced to go away because of the complaint from the residents. There are shelters for them to live, but there is not so much privacy for them in the shelter. There are lots of rules and time schedule for them to follow. So, I read a book named TENT CITY URBANISM, which analyzes the tent city,  kind of Self-Organized city. And, people were inspired by tent city, and they built the Tiny House Village, which has better house condition and more self-organized system. There is more life in this system.

What I learn from this book is that rather than many rules of limit people, giving them more freedom to do something sparks more interesting things. Privacy and freedom make life better. And another important thing is 'Self- Organized'. Order, some rule give community better quality of life. People who leave in this community create some rule by themselves from their perspective of view. And there are some architects give them new ideas of designing their community.
