The Injustice of Public Space Design
The most popping places in any city are often the businesses in the
central, dense area. Income brings development, which brings newer, exciting
attractions, thus bringing more income. This leaves public funded spaces to
fall behind in updating and developing, forcing designers of this space to
think minimally with a tight fiscal budget. While I do think that public spaces
that are flexible and adaptable for multiple uses, I can’t help but wonder what
design opportunities are missed simply due to a low budget in some of the less
financially independent cities? These public spaces should be enjoyed by all,
but when it costs more to have a good time, the free spaces degrade in
attraction and upkeep.
