Two (or four) Roads Diverged...

Where do we go after this? Will we succeed? Where do we begin? What will each of our "beginnings" look like? What is our role?"

When it comes to politics and architecture, I kept coming back to our role as an architect. We've spent years in school having our heads filled with information about programs, architecture history, case studies, famous buildings, famous people, etc. We have spent this time learning about problems in architecture, learning about solutions in architecture, reading about successful designs, and reading about unsuccessful designs. What will we do with that and what is our duty to do with that when we leave? There is no correct answer when it comes to our specific path or plan. It's our duty as architects and students to take what we've learned and put it into our everyday lives in the field. Some of us will be designing high-rises as others design million dollar homes. Both are needed and both are important. Each of us have learned things in different ways and know skills to different levels. We must separate the wants from the needs when it comes to architecture. At the end of the day we must create beautiful buildings with exceptional function.

  1. I agree with you here when it comes to putting the experience we gained while in academics into practice. However I am wondering if we need to separate the "wants" from the "needs" like you suggested? Just curious why you think it should be that way.
