America's Pastime

McMansions, strip malls, and vast swathes of concrete parking lots have become so ingrained in American culture that it can sometimes be easy to overlook this fact due to their mundane and widespread adopted nature throughout America's urban and suburban built environments. However, creating these "junkspaces" has been shown to have negative outcomes on its users and the environment's health.

But how can architects and designers address this issue? More and more we are being exposed to new, alternative & better design policies and solutions.

One solution is to design buildings and spaces which prioritize efficient use of space, sustainability, and user experience. They can also design buildings with adaptable and multi-functional spaces. Additionally, they can promote using alternative building materials that are environmentally friendly and have a low carbon footprint.

Furthermore, architects can raise awareness about the issue of junkspace through their designs and by engaging in discussions and debates about the future of architecture and urban development.
