Who should be the architect?

In this week's class, a quote from De Carlo stood out to me, and I
started to question, who should be the architect.

"In reality, architecture has become too important to be left to architects. A real metamorphosis is necessary to develop new characteristics in the practice of architecture and new behaviour patterns in its authors: therefore all barriers between builders and users must be abolished, so that building and using become two different parts of the same planning process" - Giancarlo De Carlo

De Carlo advocates for an architectural transformation that integrates the perspectives and input of individuals that will inhabit it, rather than our sole opinions and initial design thoughts. He emphasized the importance of the participatory approach across all types of architecture serving specific communities. While principles are typically taught in school, De Carlo argued a true understanding requires immersion and engagement with the community. I concur with this notion of the necessity of a metamorphosis in our approach to design.
