rabbit > beef

 Junkspace Commentary

Modernization is falling.

Our buildings are not built to last.

Air conditioning has impacted architecture - not for the better.

More and more and more.

Buildings are now more uniform and modular.

So what?

Oh Koolhaas has so much to say about the world through a despairing lens. Does he not see any beauty in the current age? I feel he is too harsh on the present without providing suggestions or hope for the future. His negative, pushy words bully us, readers, around into seeing the world as messy and ugly. This world is messy, but that does not mean it is ugly. I agree that the world is messy and out of control. But how does he propose that "we" get it into "control" through architecture? Is not the use of uniformity and modularity means of architecture gaining control? If so, those are being implemented and yet he bashes them. If rabbit is the new beef...then I'm going to go butcher a cow.

  1. I ask the same question - "so what" - let Junkspace be junkspace and let well-designed architecture be well-designed architecture. Junkspace is created with only consumerism in mind. Consumers are in Junkspaces to buy merchandise or products - not appreciate architecture.
