"A real metamorphosis..."
In Giancarlo De Carlo's Architecture's Public, De Carlo argues the importance of a new reality and metamorphosis with architecture. The role of the architect had long been vaguely twisted into a political and "elite class" association due to the fact that money and politics drove their projects. There was a clear separation between the user of a space and the architect designing those spaces. De Carlo emphasized "all barriers between builders and users must be abolished, so that building and using become two different parts of the planning process."
De Carlo's work provided a foundation for his views on the involvement of users and inhabitants in the design process. His design of the Villaggio Matteotti, in Terni, Italy showed how public space was given to the user, both public and private. Consideration was given for the future users. I believe this view is essential for architecture and defending it's relevance to future.
