Architect: Expert or Constanza?
Architects like to wear the hat that we know all. In many cases we do have to know a lot about many different aspects of life and culture. But, how much of this responsibility should be ours, or how much should we claim? Political swings have a lot to do with this. The topic of politics and technology was brought up in class, and how it is addressed. As technology is shifting the policies around building codes and procedures should shift in the same direction as well. As this is happening I believe some of the stress of the 'know all architect' should diminish. Technology controls our lives, and can easily change the process of building architecture if we allow it to. So, should the architect be the know all hero, and understand all functions of all programs in all building types, or rather take the Costanza approach by just saying I'm an architect, I design buildings?
