iArchitecture
Will architecture eventually become a product like iPhone?
With complex program requirements, and changing of owners of current architecture, a need for architecture that can meets changing needs is pressing.
Encouraging more and more participation of users might be boosting users' feedback, but will it really be optimized in design for changing needs of functions? (This is why participation is more useful in housing, besides the sense of ownership)
Creating structures and shells for users to fulfill the changing needs in functions might be one solution, but will this structure be considered architecture? Is the in-fill process by users efficient enough so that they will still be glad to be constraint by the shell?
Why could not we treat architecture like iPhone?
Because we do not own it.
Because you can not just replace a new when you smashed the old, with warranty.
Because it does not take one click and 1 weeks' wait to get it.
However, the world is changing. What if one day, you could create architecture with one click online, do we still need to discuss if people own architecture or should participate in its design?
