Acceptance of Human Life
"Design within everyday space must start with an understanding and acceptance of the life that takes place there."
I found this quote and the following discussion in Margaret Crawford's Everyday Urbanism interesting because I've always questioned how to design for the greater public when the public is made up of all kinds of very different people. The discussion continues on about designing for the many versus the unique and understanding the basic actions of human life which I find so applicable to design of all kinds. It seems as though designers think that designing for everyday life is a design of mediocrity, however, I think the best designs are those that can aid everyday life in a positive way. So when designing for the masses one must understand the bare essence of human interaction with the built environment in order to design a space that works for opposite people. How can architecture support everyday life while also helping to produce those unique moments of excitement and change that Crawford mentions?
