Who will architects be?

Architecture maintains in flux between serving the technical and artistic aspects of the work finding itself in limbo.  The struggle for what architecture should be pursuing has changed over the years, steered by students and the profession alike.  As architecture now looks at the social responsibilities of work, where will we find ourselves?

Is it still in the traditional format of design then manage construction?

Is it through design-build?

Is it by letting go of some of the project or designing every last detail?

Where will our generation as the profession bring architecture?

I believe architecture is changing not just in the way we deliver buildings, but in the way we view our impact and education.  As students we learn to create spaces, taking tiny pieces and some how learning to inhabit them. We also learn how to work with other people, how to view the big picture and the tiniest of details within the same conversation, but we need to stop binding ourselves to just the creation of buildings and the iconic ideas of what an architect does.  It is our job to look critically at the work we do, knowing each project no matter the type of construction delivery or end user impacts our society and change the struggles we face today.
