Building with purpose

Samuel Mockbee was an architect known for founding "The Rural Studio," an educational program at Auburn University that aimed to provide architectural solutions for impoverished communities in rural Alabama.

In relation to the community build studio, I think this is something we all should be focused on and that everyone should experience a studio that specifically focuses on the community, rather than a hypothetical studio project. However, it would have been interesting to see how we could have challenged ourselves to design and build a project put of unconventional materials like the rural studio. Do you think that students should be required to participate in a rural studio or a community build studio for a semester? Or should there be more participation with communities within our studio projects? For instance, like how we asked the governor schools what is something that should change architecturally.
