USING VS EXPERIENCING THE SPACE

Experience the Space!

My philosophy of a built environment aligns with Peter Zumthor. The idea that architecture should arouse feelings and provide its users with meaningful experiences is what I found most compelling in his reading, Atmospheres (Boston: Bierhausere, 2008). He places a strong emphasis on how the environment may create particular emotions and moods in a room.

Most of people have generally occupied minds and they fail to feel or fully experience the space. I want to create spaces (where needed) such that when a person enters the space, his chain of thoughts is broken and he is experiencing the place with his whole consciousness and with all of his senses. The space should create a feeling of awe and he should be intrigued by the space. With the growing technology and engineering, innovation in design is vital. Taking risks and thinking out of the box is crucial to build something new that can add its unique flavor.

Good architecture can have a very positive impact on the occupant’s mind, health, and productivity. In my opinion, architecture is not solely an artistic discipline.  Along with the artistic aspect, a good design requires astute engineering, innovation, a strong propensity for sustainability, and an understanding of human behavior and the socio-economic landscape.
