I'm a fan of critical regionalism because it embraces local traditions and materials while pushing back against the standardized, uniform look of globalist architecture. It brings a bunch of advantages compared to its predecessors like postmodernist and globalist architecture. One big plus is that it urges architects to design buildings that really belong in their surroundings, giving a sense of identity and community to the area. By using local materials and construction methods, architects can make buildings that blend in seamlessly with the natural and cultural vibe, promoting sustainability and helping the local economy.
Another cool thing about critical regionalism is that it helps balance out the extremes of postmodernism and globalism. While those styles focus on being flashy and different, critical regionalism cares more about the context and history of a place. That, in my opinion, leads to more genuine and meaningful architecture that really represents the people it serves. By highlighting the connection between a building and its environment, critical regionalism can lead to some really beautiful and practical buildings that enhance the lives of everyone who interacts with them.
