Participatory Housing in America
Would the concept of participatory social housing work in America? Alejandro Aravena’s idea of letting residents shape their homes clashes with America's top-down approach, where decisions are often made without community input. The sprawling cities and communities of the US and fragmented governance make it tough to implement wide reshaping of the industry norms to prioritize affordable and dignified social housing in policy. I would like to believe that the success of Aravena’s concept is possible to replicate where the need is, however realistically this is probably only in theory.
