Who has the right to the city?
How do we keep the right to common space in public spaces when there are people trying to take it away? Common spaces are always trying to be commodified and taken over for residential or commercial use. Or cities are trying to ‘clean up’ low-income areas by pushing those people out of their homes. An example of this would choosing park benches with dividers on them so that an unhoused person isn’t able to sleep there as that’s their last resort for somewhere comfortable to rest. These tactics are to push those people out of common spaces and away from the nicer areas of a city even though they have just as much right to the common space as anyone else.
